Botanical Gardens in Bonnieux
A truly magnificent garden with different terraces that present a subtle yet complex range of colours, in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
The garden offers many spaces planted and arranged according to their exposure and terrain:
- A reception terrace facing east with a beautiful old stone trough and cut shrubs that rise from a sea of pebbles gathered in the Durance.
- A belvedere that connects the reception terrace to the terrace of the basin.
- An old cistern transformed into a basin partially protected by the multiple trunks of a Cydonia Oblonga, the common quince.
- Wrought iron balustrades carved in the garden create viewpoints.
- A surprising variety of native plants of the garrigue (cistus, rosemary, thyme) are associated with the agricultural past.
- A field of lavender which, at the time of flowering, presents the playful spectacle of a sea of vegetation.
- The acquisition of a new parcel of land allowed the extension of the terrace which, via a short passage of grasses, leads to a swimming pool.
- A shaded and cool walkway goes up towards the reception terrace.
The presence of stone spheres and crude wooden benches designed by Nicole De Vésian offer many places for meditation.
The different terraces present a subtle yet complex range of colours, in harmony with the surrounding landscape. The view at sunset is clear and nothing disturbs the magnificent spectacle. Only the chapel of an old convent can be seen, but the village remains invisible. Towards the communal forest, cypresses and fruit trees are like witnesses to an agricultural past gradually abandoned. This mixture of close and distant visions contribute to the feeling of a dialogue between the garden and its surroundings which is clearly inscribed in this space: The Luberon.
