A Cathedral of color carved by the ocriers of the Pays d'Apt - An underground journey that testifies to the life of the men of the Pays d'Apt in the era of the exploitation of ocher in the 19th century.
Open in the afternoon from 15 March to 1 April. Open every day from 2 April to 15 November from 10 am. Duration of the visit 50 mn, departures at fixed hours, variable according to the months.
In these cliffs in warm and luminous colors of this forest of pines, were dug by the strength of the arms of the ocriers about 50 km of galleries. A monumental vestige of the exploitation of ocher, unique and admirable site, this mysterious labyrinth is today protected and 650 m of galleries have been arranged for the visit.
In small groups, the guide will accompany you to the galleries borrowed from the work of the men, which began on this site in 1848 and stopped shortly after the Second World War. Outside the site, illustrated didactic panels tell a page of the industrial history of the Pays d'Apt.
Visits only accompanied and commented in French (provision of translations in English, German, Dutch, Italian or Spanish). Groups of up to 25 people.
