The Côte d’Azur is a region known for its contrasts - from lively waterfronts to quiet hillside retreats.
Joanna, our local expert at Provence Holidays, understands the area inside out. Her role is to find the finest homes along the coast while building strong relationships with owners, ensuring every guest has access to the best properties. With years of experience working with an international clientele, she offers a practical and informed perspective on where to stay, where to eat, and what to do in this part of Provence.
Life on the Côte d’Azur | Joanna’s perspective
For Joanna, the Côte d’Azur is more than just a destination - it is a place of contrasts, where the mountains meet the sea, creating a landscape that is both diverse and ever-changing. "We have access to both the coastline and the inland hills, which makes it an ideal location," she explains. "One day you can be on the beach, and the next, hiking in the hills with views stretching across the Mediterranean."
Her role at Provence Holidays is about more than just finding properties. She works to expand the company’s presence in the Côte d’Azur, carefully selecting homes that align with the needs of international travellers while maintaining strong relationships with property owners. "It is not just about securing beautiful homes- it is about working closely with owners to make sure we offer the very best experiences to our guests," she says. One of Joanna’s favourite parts of her job is the opportunity to explore places she has never seen before. "I love discovering new areas when visiting properties. Even after years in Provence, I still find hidden corners that surprise me," she shares.
Although Joanna grew up in Provence, she spent two years in Bristol, UK, where she refined her English. "Moving to the UK was an important step for me," she recalls. "Since then, I have always worked with an international clientele, which comes naturally - everyone in my family speaks English." Her experience abroad, combined with her deep knowledge of Provence, allows her to offer practical and informed recommendations tailored to international visitors. For those seeking a true Côte d’Azur experience, Joanna’s expertise ensures that every stay is carefully matched to the guest, the location, and the lifestyle they are looking for. Joanna has a passion for music, performing as part of Pepper Soul, a duo known for its harmonised folk covers and original songs. "We currently play at private events, bar openings, and summer venues, always reworking songs in our own style".
Joanna's property spotlight | Villa Alice
"One of my favourite villas is Villa Alice, mainly because of its stunning views and direct access to the famous Sentier du Littoral. From the property, you can walk along the cliffs, follow the waterfront, and even take a dip in the Mediterranean. Additionally, guests have access to a tennis court and the charming Port d’Augier, adding to the exclusive experience.
For me, the location is ideal. You can easily drive to Giens to see the pink flamingos at the famous Salins, or visit Almanarre Beach, where you can watch kite surfers play with the wind. As for the villa itself, I love its unique blend of styles. Originally built in the 1960s, it has been beautifully renovated this year, maintaining its character while adding modern comfort. The mix of design elements, stylish furnishings, and multiple terraces create a welcoming and elegant atmosphere. You can even enjoy a game of boules while taking in breathtaking views from wherever you sit.
"What I love most about the Côte d’Azur is its contrast - one moment you are by the sea, the next, surrounded by hills with sweeping views over the Mediterranean. It is a place where every day feels different, and there is always something new to discover."
Joanna's favourite place to enjoy relaxed beachfront dining | Le P’tit Wyc
With so many restaurants along the Côte d’Azur, narrowing down a favourite is not easy. Joanna, however, has a soft spot for Le P’tit Wyc in Sainte-Maxime. "There are so many incredible places to eat, from simple bistros to fine dining, but if I had to pick just one, it would be Le P’tit Wyc," she says. "It is not as big or flashy as some of the other beach restaurants, which makes it feel much more personal and relaxed."
The menu focuses on fresh, simple dishes that let the ingredients shine. "You will not find anything overly complicated here - just good food made with care. The cocktails are excellent, the rosé selection is great, and the team always makes you feel welcome," Joanna shares.
Set right by the water, Le P’tit Wyc is the kind of place where you can settle in for the evening, enjoying soft lounge music in the background as the sun sets over the sea. "I love coming here at the end of the day," Joanna says. "It has the kind of laid-back atmosphere that makes you want to stay a little longer."

Joanna's favourite family-friendly property | Villa Mimosas
For families, Villa Mimosas is a well-located choice in a secure domaine. Set within a secure domaine, this villa offers privacy while being just a five-minute walk from the beach. With a tennis court located right next to the house, it is ideal for families who enjoy staying active during their holiday. "It is rare to find a villa so close to the beach while still offering space and privacy," Joanna explains. "For families, it is the perfect balance between relaxation and activity."
Joanna's favourite property for large groups on the Côte d'Azur| Villa Cristal
For those travelling in larger groups, Villa Cristal is designed to provide both privacy and communal spaces. The property includes separate annexes, each with its own kitchen, so guests can enjoy their own space while still sharing the experience. "It is hard to find a villa that offers so much independence while still feeling like a shared home," Joanna says. "Whether you are travelling with family or friends, it allows everyone to have their own space while still coming together for meals and time by the pool."
The swimming pool is one of the highlights, set against a backdrop of coastal views. "The views from this property are incredible - you can sit outside and take it all in, whether it is by the pool or on one of the terraces," Joanna shares. The location near Saint-Tropez makes it an ideal base for exploring the region, with easy access to the coast, lively restaurants, and quieter countryside escapes. "It is the kind of place where you can spend the day out and about, then return to a completely private retreat at the end of the day," she adds.
Joanna's favourite experience on the Côte d’Azur
For those looking to experience the Côte d’Azur from the water, Joanna recommends a boat trip to Porquerolles, one of the most beautiful islands off the coast. "Porquerolles is a must-visit, with its crystal-clear waters, untouched coves, and scenic coastal trails. It is the perfect place to spend the day exploring by bike or on foot, stopping for a swim or a picnic along the way," she says. The island is only accessible by boat, making it feel like a true Mediterranean escape.
For an inland adventure, Joanna suggests a visit to the Gorges du Verdon, a spectacular canyon often called the Grand Canyon of Europe. "The landscapes here are completely different from the coast - it is a place for hiking, kayaking, or simply soaking in the views," she explains. "The water is a deep turquoise, and the cliffs rise dramatically on either side. It is truly one of the most unique natural sights in Provence." Whether by boat or on land, these experiences showcase the diverse landscapes of the Côte d’Azur.
