Explore Châteauneuf-du-Pape with Fanny, our local property management expert at Provence Holidays.

With deep family roots in the village and a passion for uncovering Provence’s most remarkable places, Fanny shares her favourite homes, dining spots, and insider tips. Whether you are planning a family escape, a group stay, or looking to experience Provence like a local - she knows exactly where to begin. Shall we?

“I love that wherever I go in the world, people know about Châteauneuf - of course for its wine - but I feel very proud to have been to countries in Africa or America and heard people recognise my hometown.”

Fanny has lived in Châteauneuf-du-Pape all her life, with generations of her family rooted in the village. She works in the bookings department and is also responsible for listing properties across Ventoux and The Luberon. “I love discovering new properties and new places. I feel that Provence is a never-ending well of beautiful spots. I’m always excited to visit a property because I know that when I go past the front gate, those first ten seconds will be my wow effect of the day.”

Fanny has worked with Provence Holidays for three years. As a teenager, she had the opportunity to study English at a summer school, which sparked a love for travel. “I fell in love with England and travelled there many times, even living for a few months around Cornwall.” But Provence is where she feels most at home - and where she finds great joy in helping others discover its magic.

Châteauneuf du Pape

Property spotlight | Le Refuge du Prieuré

"This property is very special to me because it belonged to my great grandfather".

Le Refuge du Prieuré holds a special place in Fanny’s heart. Once owned by her great-grandfather, it is a home she remembers from childhood - “close to its original state,” as she recalls. Years later, she had the chance to rediscover it after the current owners lovingly restored it. “I cannot believe what it has become,” she says. Tucked at the foot of the historic castle and right in the heart of the village, the house blends old-world charm with contemporary comfort. You can look all the way to Avignon from the property and see all the vineyards that surround the Chateauneuf and the Rhone. Its elevated position offers sweeping views over the vineyards, the Rhône, and as far as Avignon. “There’s even an office space I would love to work in,” Fanny adds. Outside, the stone courtyard wraps around a peaceful pool, thoughtfully built into the castle walls -“super charming,” in Fanny’s words. A rare opportunity to stay somewhere deeply rooted in local history, with a view you will not forget.

Where Fanny loves to eat in Châteauneuf du Pape | Les C

When it comes to dining out, Fanny’s top recommendation is Les C - “sort of a high-end wine bar and tapas place, where all the dishes are made to share,” she says. With its exceptional wine selection and elegant yet relaxed atmosphere, it is a favourite among locals and visitors alike. “I would describe it as a high-end tapas bar, but the atmosphere is really friendly and welcoming.”

Fanny’s go-to dishes? The brouillade d'œuf à la truffe - scrambled eggs with truffle - and the huîtres gratinées, or gratinated oysters. “Both are perfect for sharing and pair beautifully with a glass from their wine list,” she adds. For something more refined, she also recommends La Mère Germaine, a Michelin-starred institution in the heart of the village. “This restaurant has been the centre of Châteauneuf for decades,” Fanny says, “and it continues to be a reference for elegant, local dining.”

Recommended experience in Châteauneuf-du-Pape | Wine tours

With hundreds of renowned domaines in and around Châteauneuf-du-Pape, wine tasting is an essential part of any visit. Fanny recommends exploring a handful of the village’s 300 cellars - or for a deeper experience, joining a guided wine tour. One of her top suggestions is a tour with local expert Céline, who offers insightful and personal tastings that bring the village’s wine heritage to life. For those interested in cultural events, Fanny also highlights the Théâtre Antique in Orange, just five minutes away. This remarkable Roman site not only offers a fascinating glimpse into the past but also hosts open-air concerts and theatre performances throughout the summer.
