Nîmes, Nîmes & Uzès

Nîmes is actually a city in the Occitanie region of southern France, not a village. It's renowned for its well-preserved Roman monuments, including the Arena of Nîmes, a Roman amphitheater still used today for events like bullfighting and concerts. The Maison Carrée is a beautifully preserved Roman temple, and the nearby Pont du Gard is an ancient Roman aqueduct bridge, all testaments to Nîmes' rich history.

In addition to its Roman heritage, Nîmes boasts charming narrow streets, bustling squares, and elegant gardens. It's also known for its textiles, particularly denim, which is said to have originated from the city's name ("de Nîmes" means "from Nîmes" in French). Nîmes is often regarded as one of the gateways to the Provence region due to its proximity and shared cultural characteristics.
